Metcalfe Union Cemetery was founded in 1834 as the Wesleyan-Methodist Burying Ground and was originally 3/4 of an acre. At some point, the cemetery became referred to as the Metcalfe Methodist Cemetery or Methodist Hill Church Cemetery. The Cemetery likely changed its name to Metcalfe Union Cemetery around 1925, when the United Church of Canada was created. The Metcalfe Methodist Church stood in the cemetery when the first log building was built in 1838. It would be followed by two replacement churches, the final being a frame church built in 1853. The building was demolished around 1920.
