The Prescott Road Union Cemetery was created as the burying ground surrounding the Bowers Wesleyan Methodist Church. The land was donated by John C. Bowers, likely in the mid-1840s; however, the deed for the property was not obtained until 1861.  The church building stood on the property until it was burned to the ground by a grass fire in either 1922 or 1925.  In the oldest part of the cemetery (east end), the first burials were marked with wooden crosses that have since been lost or deteriorated.
